Tradespersons with approved electrical, plumbing or other approved industry qualifications could find that employment opportunities are created for them by a new scheme to install energy-efficient upgrades in London homes.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson announced this week that trials are underway for a project that could see 500,000 houses in the capital having energy saving upgrades provided for free by 2012.
In addition, it is expected that many green jobs will be created for those installing the home improvements, which could find workers who have taken plumbing or electrical courses in high demand.
Mr Johnson commented that the project "will place London at the forefront of a low carbon economy, along with all the benefits for job creation and the environment that this will bring".
The Mayor recently announced plans to regenerate the Nine Elms region of the city, with 16,000 new homes to be built, which could further offer employment to local tradespeople.
