The costs associated with installing green technology are discouraging people from hiring professionals who have taken plumbing courses to fit such equipment.
This is the opinion of John Tebbit, industry affairs director at the Construction Products Association, who made his comments in response to research at Sustainability Now.
A poll at the event found 72 per cent of people agreed that having a new government in power is a perfect opportunity to alter green legislation.
Mr Tebbit highlighted the Renewable Heat Incentive as an example of individuals being encouraged to install devices such as biomass boilers and heat pumps, which might involve them hiring engineers who have completed plumbing courses.
But he stressed that the incentives offered by the government are not currently enough to make such projects worthwhile and the admin costs are too high.
"If I was spending £4,000 on the code fees rather than the £900 I spent, that is £3,000 that I can't spend on better insulation or a solar panel, a better boiler or whatever," explained Mr Tebbit.
