Here at Able Skills we have been providing Gas training courses for almost 20-years! The pandemic could not have been predicted by anyone and has had an effect on all of us. With the rollout of the vaccine the situation is looking brighter. During the pandemic many Gas Engineers have have relied on the ACS extension of 6-months. There is obviously a demand for ACS reassessments it is a legal requirement for Gas Engineers here in the UK. At the same time we will have to maintain a reduced capacity here at our centre to ensure that we are presenting a space that is both safe and reliable for our students and staff. some installers may be unable to book a course in time, leaving them at risk of losing their Gas Safe Register status. The Gas Safe Register themselves have said: “Renewal of Gas Safe registration in these circumstances, will be considered on a case by case basis and is not guaranteed.” This means that when the extension comes to an end additional extensions will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This could change but for now we advice that Gas Engineers make every effort to seek assessments from trusted training centres such as ourselves.

If you are looking to start a new career then thinking about becoming a Gas Engineer is fantastic! The opportunities in this trade are endless. You should know that we offer courses specifically designed for New entrants. Initially, during our New Entrant Gas Training Package 2, for example, you will get stuck in to 7-weeks of hands-on practical experience mixed with classroom sessions focusing on the theory side of the trade.
After this initial in-centre training you will look to complete a portfolio, collecting evidence of work alongside a professional Gas Engineer.
Finally, you will return to our centre to take on an ACS assessment. This is an exam that focuses on Core Domestic Gas Safety and is a requirement for Gas Safe registration. The purpose of this Training/Assessment is to provide operatives with the knowledge and skills relating to safety regulations, procedures and British Standards, which must be applied when working on Gas Installations.
