The importance of electrical courses has been underlined after Colchester General Hospital was forced to temporarily close its maternity ward as a result of an electrical problem.
None of the 16 babies inside the special care baby unit were affected by the issues, but new admissions were redirected to facilities in Cambridgeshire, Essex and Suffolk.
Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust director of nursing Julie Firth told BBC News that her team were attempting to resolve the issue, which would require the skills of engineers who have completed electrical courses.
"We apologise to the small number of women expecting to give birth in Colchester who will inevitably be inconvenienced and also to their partners and families," she was quoted as saying.
The news provider revealed that the hospital was able to reopen its maternity ward on Thursday July 1st at 15:00 BST, after having to rely on back-up facilities until that time.
