Watch out for the new mobile NVQ assessment team
Able Skills provide valuable training for people looking to further their careers in the construction industry. We are one of the leading providers of construction training courses and NVQ qualifications in the UK. There’s a wide variety of NVQs in and around the construction sector, including Building Services Industry and Construction qualifications.
The new assessment fleet
A lot of what Able Skills do involves assessing work on site, with our staff having to travel to numerous construction projects. So we’ve just invested in a new fleet of vans so that they can get around easily. With an increasing emphasis on on-site assessment, the vans will be covering some serious miles over the coming years. So, if you happen to see one of the Able Skills branded vans out and about, there’s a good chance you know where they are going.
Why you need to get industry certified
Being good at what you do isn’t always enough. You need to be able to prove it. Which explains why accreditation, certification and qualifications are so important. They prove to both clients and employers that you’ve been trained to do what you say you can do.
In the construction industry, the leading certification body is the Construction Skills Certificate Scheme (CSCS). Which type of work you do, how experienced you are, and your qualifications and membership of professional bodies determine what type of specific CSCS card you can apply for. If you work as an electrician there is a separate body called the Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS), which issues its own cards.
Without identification and proof of qualifications it is now almost impossible to gain access to a construction site in the UK. These cards are a handy way of covering both bases, widely recognised across the industry as a way of proving your credentials and that you are who you say you are.
Acquiring the right skills and qualifications
In order to get the right card, you have to possess, or be working towards, the right qualifications. In most cases, that means an NVQ. These are the most widely accepted standard bearer and considered the best way of achieving your CSCS or ECS status. It’s the main reason able skills has invested in their new fleet.
Skills providers like ourselves are essential for offering the right training, and ensuring that workers in the construction industry are accredited and qualified to the correct standard.
