Our two Painting & Decorating instructors, Mark & Chris have years of experience out in the industry and combined have a lifetime of experience to pass on to our students taking decorating courses here at Able Skills.
They enjoy teaching immensely and meeting new students from all over the UK, plus even international students. They are always here to help you along and answer any questions you may have! Don't be fearful of taking one of our decorating courses because you don't have any experience or you are embarrassed in any way, that is what our instructors are here for!
One great advantage of being taught by our instructors here at Able Skills is that they understand the trade completely and can give you tips and tricks that you won't find on any website or YouTube video, Mark & Chris have first-hand experience working the trade every day for years! This is extremely valuable to students and will give you an extra boost when you start working as a professional yourself.
Looking to enrol on a decorating course?
There a multiple options when considering enrolling on a decorating course. Which course you choose is dependant on your current skill level. If you have little to no experience in decorating then you would be best off taking an Introduction to Decorating Course.
Maybe also consider taking an Advanced Painting & Decorating Course this course will give you an insight into some more complex techniques and will be a follow-up to the introduction. During this course you will learn:
- Accessing for painting & decorating such as erecting a small tower scaffold and detailed explanation of ladder safety
- Detailed underpinning knowledge of Health and Safety: Working at heights regulations
- Preparation of a full room area for a patterned wallpaper scheme
- Cross lining: Hanging lining paper horizontally as a base layer for wallpaper
- Application of emulsion and oil based paints for a pattern papered room
- Application of emulsion and oil based paints for a painted wallpaper scheme (anaglyptic, blown vinyl and wood engrained papers)
- Paper hanging: Hanging 2 pattern papers to a full room area:- one with set pattern design, one with drop pattern design
The Next Step:
There are so many different decorating courses at Able Skills. You can choose to maybe move on to qualification options after completing the above courses. Maybe a City and Guilds or NVQ Level 2. Alternatively, it may be that you want to cover an aspect in more detail such as wallpapering in which case you can do a 5 Day Wallpapering Course.
A City and Guilds Decorating Course is the next logical step if you are looking to gain some proof of your hard work and training, you will gain a certificate at the end of this course if successful and have knowledge of the following units:
- Introduction to Health and Safety
- Painting Techniques
- Painting and Wallpapering
- Applying decorative effects
- Applying wallpaper to internal and external angles and painting skirting
- Painting a panelled door
