Those who are studying on decorating courses might benefit from the knowledge that the home improvements sector has seen an increasing use of colour in people's homes, according to one industry expert.
Julia Kendell, interior designer on BBC1's DIY SOS television series, said that the make do and mend concept is also likely to be "very prevalent" in householders' DIY efforts over the next few months.
Her comments follow the publication of research from the National Home Improvement Show, which revealed that more than ten per cent of people plan to begin a DIY project in the coming year.
"Because we've been pretty miserable, [householders] want something that they can go home and feel happy in. People are getting more and more clued up about recycling, about what can be done with pieces of old furniture," stated Ms Kendell.
She added that the fashion for minimalist greys is no longer popular.
