People are looking to make improvements to their current properties rather than seeking to move elsewhere - news which may be of interest to those who are studying for plumbing qualifications.
This is the viewpoint of George Clarke, presenter of Build a New Life and Channel 4's The Home Show, who said that people are increasingly seeking to create a "lovely home" which is suitable for the needs of their family.
His comments follow the publication of a report conducted at the National Home Improvement Show, which revealed that 91.3 per cent of homeowners are planning to undertake a DIY project over the next year.
"Rather than people going off and doing their grand designs and moving to big houses, people are wanting to stay where they are and consolidate what they've got and add value to what they've got," stated Mr Clarke.
The most popular home improvement tasks include building conservatories, demolishing dividing walls and converting lofts, according to Lloyds TSB Insurance.
