A construction industry source has suggested an increase in the number of homes being built could lead to more jobs, with technicians who have completed plumbing courses potentially benefiting.
Head of communications at the Home Builders Federation Steve Turner explained that residential properties form a small part in the overall construction sector in the UK, but it is a significant employer.
In his opinion, local economies are positively affected in economic terms by an increase in the number of houses being constructed, which may require the services of tradesmen who have taken plumbing courses.
"We have got to see more mortgages ... and we have got to see a functional planning system. If those two are addressed then we will see more homes delivered," said Mr Turner.
A report released by Rics last month showed that 59 per cent of chartered surveyors indicated that the third quarter of 2010 had not seen construction workloads change.
