The demand for workers who have taken gas training courses could be set to soar after an illegal fitter was prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
According to the body, Paul Bailey from Nottingham has been given a 12-month community service order, must carry out 22 hours of unpaid work and made to pay costs of £750 after he was found to undertake gas fitting work without being Corgi registered.
Corgi was the official gas registration organisation before the Gas Safe Register replaced it in 2009.
Additionally, he installed a gas boiler and issued gas safety certificates without the competence nor qualifications to do so, the body stated.
Commenting on the prosecution, HSE inspector David Butter said: "In order to work legally in the UK, gas installers must be registered with the appropriate approved body. "
This, he explained is essential to make sure the work carried out is both completed to a high standard and safe.
