The need for construction skills, vital to preserve Britain’s heritage, is being recognised with bursary schemes being made available through the Heritage Lottery Scheme.
The schemes are providing the money to pay for apprenticeships in skills including stonemasonry, carpentry and joinery, bricklaying, and blacksmithing. A number of local councils, including Wellingborough in Northamptonshire, and organisations such as the National Trust and English Heritage, have received funding.
