The economic recovery could see demand for skilled workers increase, according to the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), which may lead to a greater need for workers who have undertaken plumbing courses.
Director-general of the industry body Richard Lambert made his comments after the CBI published a survey, which indicated 51 per cent of employers worry they will not be able to fill posts requiring higher skills over the next few years.
This may provide the impetus for people to take plumbing courses, so that they might have the qualifications future employers are looking for.
Mr Lambert remarked: "As we move further into recovery and businesses plan for growth, the demand for people with high-quality skills and qualifications will intensify."
In his view, the government should have the training of tomorrow's workforce at the forefront of its policies.
This week, CBI chief economic advisor Ian McCaffertey noted a significant rise in inflation to 3.7 per cent in April, which he put down to increases in the prices of clothing, tobacco and alcohol.
