Technicians who have taken electrical courses may be set for a busy period, as 1,300 charging points are set to be installed in London.
London mayor Boris Johnson made the announcement regarding the electric car power stations at the weekend, claiming there are several manufacturers who are gearing up to produce affordable vehicles of this type.
He suggested petrol-free transport is becoming "increasingly attractive" to Londoners and said more people are likely to adopt this form of transport, which could mean more demand for electrical courses among engineers.
"Already there are more electric drivers in London than anywhere else in the UK and we are now entering an incredibly exciting period in electric motoring," said Mr Johnson.
The charging points are estimated to be complete by 2013, with Source London - a Transport for London organisation - given the responsibility to carry out the work and provide electricity sources for drivers.
