There may be new interest in bricklaying courses after news that there will be 50,000 new apprenticeships funded, with some of these based in the construction industry.
Chief executive of ConstructionSkills Mark Farrar responded by stating the sector needs government support if it is going to fully recover from the recession and he is happy that the state has prioritised the training of young people.
Youngsters currently taking bricklaying courses may be happy to hear that the number of potential apprenticeship spots has increased from the proposed 20,000 places that were previously mooted.
"Construction is the most efficient industry for the public sector to invest in, with every £1 spent generating £2.84 in wider economic benefit," remarked Mr Farrar.
The apprenticeships will be funded by the reallocation of £150 million for workers in small to medium sized enterprises.
Last month, Mr Farrar highlighted the importance of having a well-trained workforce in construction and lauded each of the main political parties for prioritising this issue in their election manifestos.
