Decorating Student Starting Her NVQ Course Here AT Able Skills!

 

This course will prepare you for professional work over a period of 7-weeks, during which you will be taught a series of units. You will be geared towards real-life scenarios; this is a fantastic experience as it prepares and qualifies you for the Painting & Decorating industry.

After completing, the full 7-weeks, we know that our instructors will have gotten you completely ready for getting out into the industry and producing top quality work. You'll be ready to gather the evidence needed to progress towards your NVQ.

What is an NVQ?

 

An NVQ or Nation Vocational Qualification is a workplace competence test and has a high stature in the construction industry. It is a qualification that is seen by employers as a reputable thing to have. This is because it means that you have been assessed on the job against a set of criteria. We will send an Able Skills assessor to your place of work to test your knowledge and ability on-site.

You will need to create a portfolio of pictures and evidence of a range of diffrent jobs, it cannot be achieved in a simulated environment like our training centre. What we do is prepare you for success in the process for when you are in the real world working environment.

The qualification requires you to provide evidence of projects to prove your competency. For new starters to a company or job role, an NVQ allows you to increase your knowledge of both the practical and theory elements in the role.

  • Erecting and Dismantling Access/Working Platforms in the Workplace
  • Preparing surfaces for painting/decorating in the workplace
  • Applying Paint Systems by Brush and Roller in the Workplace
  • Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace
  • Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace
  • Moving, Handling and Storing Resources in the Workplace

Painting & Decorating Facilities:

 

We have great facilities here at Able Skills, that will emulate similar environments that you will work in out there in the industry. We have two friendly instructors that are highly qualified that have experience in both teaching students and working as professional in this trade!

Our facilities and painting and decorating courses are geared for whatever skill level or a specific aspect of decorating. For example, if you're already working as a painter and decorator, but you are interested in learning to wallpaper. We run a 5-day Wallpapering Course that will teach you everything about this specific skill.

Today new starter Ricky is taking this course and is gaining the knowledge that our instructor Mark has learnt from his years of experience. In just a short space of time, we will give you a complete overview of how to wallpaper in a professional manner. Here is a list of the skills that you will be taught during this course:

  • Identify different patterns
  • Mix adhesives
  • Set and mark out, including levelling and plumbing (straight and aligned)
  • Measure and cut to correct sizes
  • Apply adhesive
  • Folding techniques
  • Hang and re-plumb internal and external corners
  • Mark, cut and trim around obstacles
  • Keep areas clean and tidy

We are confident that this 5-day Wallpapering Course will give you much more than you think and you will leave Able Skills, with the proper and thorough understanding of wallpapering.
