Anybody who wants to improve their DIY skills could think about taking plumbing courses, according to one sector expert.
As well as being able to carry out work around the house, individuals can pass on such knowledge to their children when they are old enough to help, stated assistant editor of Homebuilding and Renovating Magazine Melanie Griffiths.
She suggested that people could think about embarking on official training like plumbing courses, so that they know how to get their children involved in such activities.
"If you are really not confident at all as an adult, there are plenty of courses that you can take at local schools and colleges night classes or weekend courses," explained Ms Griffiths.
The DIY expert pointed out many skills for use around the house used to be taught at school, but now it is mostly specialist subjects in which teach these abilities.
Recent research by Tesco showed the number of women who go shopping for DIY items has increased from 20 per cent to 60 per cent over the past ten years.
