Tradespersons who have successfully completed a plumbing training course could find they are in increasing demand among homeowners in Scotland, after details of a new boiler scrappage scheme were announced by the Scottish government.
A maximum of 5,000 homes in the country will get the chance to receive a £400 grant towards the cost of a new, eco-friendly boiler, if their old appliance converts less than 70 per cent of fuel into heat.
The move will help the nation's homes reduce their fuel bills, cut down on carbon emissions and bring down heating costs.
Applications will be accepted from May 24th onwards.
Commenting on the news, housing and communities minister Alex Neil said that as well as offering numerous benefits to householders, the initiative will also provide "an economic stimulus for the heating industry, supporting jobs and helping it get through this financially difficult time".
And it could be that workers with plumbing qualifications receive an employment boost, as demand grows for appliance installers and fitters.
A similar scheme in England ended on March 26th.
