Tradespersons with approved plumbing qualifications could find themselves in demand after chancellor of the exchequer Alistair Darling announced details of a new boilers scrappage scheme for the UK in his pre-Budget report yesterday (December 9th).
Planned to get underway next year, the scheme will involve homeowners who have old, energy-inefficient boilers being given £400 by the government toward the cost of a new one.
The project aims to save consumers money on their fuel bills and Will Marples, energy expert at uSwitch, commented that the proposal should prove beneficial.
"Heating and hot water accounts for £756 [a year on average] so it makes absolute sense to focus energy efficiency efforts here where people have the most to gain," he said.
Plumbers who have taken training courses might find a raft of new employment opportunities when the scheme gets underway, with more Britons having to rely on experts to install their new boilers.
