People who have trained on plumbing courses may be needed soon to carry out work on a new project in Liverpool city centre.

The University of Liverpool has announced that construction is to begin on a new block of student accommodation situated close to its campus.

Named Vine Court, the building will comprise of two blocks and feature living spaces for 710 people, in addition to a restaurant, cafe and retail area.

The building will also be constructed to meet high standards in eco-living, with LED lighting in common areas and a grey water system that will likely be installed by people who have completed plumbing courses.

Managing director of Ocon Andrew Barker said: "This is an extremely prestigious project and will set a new benchmark for student accommodation both in the standard of specification and the emphasis on eco-friendly features."

Ocon have recently completed work on installing the longest escalator in Manchester as part of the city's Piccadilly Gate project.
