Students completing plumbing courses may be able to find work in Manchester if proposals to build new student accommodation are given the go-ahead.

Manor Property Group has applied for permission to build apartments for 676 occupants on Coupland Street, Hulme, as well as retail and office space.

Manchester City Council said it will come to a decision regarding the redevelopment project by June 23rd 2011.

Company director Bill Addy said: "Manor recognises the strategic importance of the Coupland Street site, which is within walking distance of both the University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University."

It was added that the project, which is expected to be completed by September 2013, will deliver a "significant number of jobs" to the area, which could include positions for those who have finished plumbing courses.

In addition to these plans for student halls, Manor Property is putting proposals together to build apartments for 1,000 university attendees on Adelphi Street in Salford, which it hopes will also be ready by September 2013.
