Employers will often make shortlists based on the qualifications candidates have completed, according to one source, which suggests plumbing courses may be important for some job applications.
Head of marketing at the National Computing Centre Michael Dean explained that individuals with self-taught abilities should think about getting themselves accredited, since this will aid them during selection processes.
In his opinion, anyone applying for a position without relevant training - such as plumbing courses - would need to put great emphasis on the work experience they have done during their career.
Mr Dean added: "One candidate may have more qualifications than another, but their personality may not be the right fit for the job. Either way, the base line is having the qualifications."
There was good news for job seekers earlier this week, as the Recruitment and Employment Confederation and KPMG's latest Report on Jobs indicated that there was an increase in job vacancies last month.
