Tradespersons who have taken a plumber training course could find that their services are needed to retrofit homes as part of an effort to reduce Britain's carbon emissions.

It was recently revealed by the Department of Energy and Climate Change that its new Warm Homes, Greener Homes strategy will attempt to supply insulation to millions of homes before 2015, as well as various eco-friendly upgrades by 2020.

And Gordon Miller, founder of whatgreenhome.com - which offers independent reviews of green houses for sale - commented that adding new environmentally-friendly technology to older properties is necessary to cutting down carbon dioxide (CO2) output.

"Clearly retrofitting and bringing the existing homes up to speed is absolutely critical if we are going to meet our own emissions targets and reduce CO2 emissions," he said.

Therefore industry professionals could soon find themselves increasingly in demand to install eco-friendly devices and machines - such as boilers, solar panels and air source pumps - throughout the country.
