A large proportion of homeowners have the desire to move up the property ladder, according to Knight Frank, which could provide sustained employment for those with approved electrical or plumbing qualifications.
It was recently announced by Abbey Mortgages that one in three British home movers did so to make their way up the housing ladder.
And Liam Bailey, head of residential research at Knight Frank, commented that the figures are inevitable as blossoming families mean that more space is needed - which consequently leads to bigger and more expensive houses needing to be bought.
"The biggest reason for moving is for family and lifestyle changes - the need for more space for children," he said.
Such data could prove to be good news for industry professionals like electricians and plumbers, who are often needed to provide routine maintenance and repair services to homes when people move in.
The Abbey Mortgages statistics also showed that 136,000 people changed properties to gain more space.
