The number of regulations relating to the government's Microgeneration Certification Scheme have been criticised by a tradesman with plumbing course qualifications, who has started a campaign for change.
Mick Williams, chairman of Williams and Co, suggested the current quantity of guidelines relating to the installation of renewable energy devices is too much of a "burden" for small firms, reported the Builders Merchant Journal.
He pointed out that companies like his own might only carry out a handful of such jobs during a year and the administration that comes with such contracts is simply out of proportion with the benefits.
"Over-regulation is the biggest barrier to renewable take-up. Small businesses are put off becoming accredited, both by the total costs and the weight of paperwork required," Mr Williams told the news provider.
Green Building Store marketing manager Chayley Collis recently claimed that low-energy development projects are mainly being carried out by private investors at present, as opposed the public sector.
