More people may soon be signing up to plumbing courses, after a study by Halifax showed that many homeowners want to make alterations to their property.
According to research by the banking institution, just 19 per cent of homeowners want to move in to a house which needs no work done to it, with the organisation's commercial director of mortgages Stephen Noakes claiming individuals are less willing to compromise on their living space.
This desire to create the ideal property is likely to mean that the expertise gained from plumbing courses is required to complete major changes.
"There's often a difference between the dream home and the reality of more traditional properties on the market but now, more than ever, people are willing to take on their own project," explained Mr Noakes.
This week, Sainsbury's Finance revealed that its personal loan figures for the first half of the year support this trend, with the proportion of people borrowing to make home improvements staying consistent, despite the difficult economic climate.
