Tradespersons who have taken a gas training course could find themselves increasingly in demand, following a prosecution by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
According to the body, self-employed Stanley Burrage was fined £1,200 and ordered to pay further costs of £1,200 after he was found guilty of installing a kitchen, including a gas hob, electric oven and extractor fan at a council property in Stroud in 2008 without being Corgi registered.
During a council inspection of the property, a number of errors were noticed, which were seen as potentially putting the residents' health in danger.
Commenting after the case, HSE inspector Andy Shaw said: "Gas appliances which are not properly installed and adequately maintained by a competent registered installer pose a serious danger - you could literally be putting your life at risk."
He added that people need to regularly get their gas appliances checked by someone with approved gas qualifications.
The HSE aims to prevent death, injury and ill health in Britain's workplaces.
