News that Colchester council could soon approve plans to install solar panels on up to 2,000 homes may prompt more tradesmen to sign up for PV training.
According to the Essex County Standard, the local authority will meet next week to discuss the issue and is expected to give it the green light.
It is planning on installing the solar power generators on council houses across the city that feature south-facing roofs, which could involved the expertise of technicians who have completed PV training.
The council is aiming to have the project up and running by April 2012, but full proposals still need to be drawn up.
If the plans are approved, the local authority will begin drawing up a shortlist of companies capable of delivering the project.
This week, Cambridgeshire councillor Mike Pitt lauded the potential of solar-powered waste disposal units, which are capable of holding eight times as much rubbish as conventional bins, reported BBC News.
