So What's The Best Multi-Function Tester We Hear You Ask?
Being a Course Provider sometimes means doing more than just offering theoretical and practical training for students. We pay close attention to what students exactly want from us, and on top of expert training, we talk with our students and welcome any questions they may have regarding their trade.
When speaking with students on our various Electrical Courses, we noticed the amount of trainees asking our industry expert instructors, 'Which is the best Multi-Function Tester to buy?'. Many students told us they've worked with several different testers and through mutual conversation, we've put together a few you might find useful and we start with the one we use here in our very own Electrical Centres at Able Skills
Megger MFT1721
The most popular of the range of 17th Edition testers offering all the benefits of the MFT1710, including auto RCD testing and adding phase rotation, 3-phase RCD testing and current measurement with the optional clamp.
This now adds an additional 100V insulation test range, true RMS voltage measurement, mV sensor input and Type B RCD testing.

Fluke 1664 FC
"Insulation Pre-test" that detects when appliances are connected to the system and stops the test. It runs seven installation tests automatically in one sequence with a single connection through Auto Test and it allows you to share test results in real time over your smartphone via Fluke Connect Measurements

Kewtech KT63 5-in-1
A simple to use multifunction tester that allows measurement of five different parameters. This makes it an ideal product for carrying out testing as it negates the need to use multiple devices when one can do the job.
Testing functions available on the KT63 are continuity, insulation, loop impedance, PSC/PFC and RCD with multiple options available for each test. Results for tests are relayed through the large-size LCD screen built into the front of the unit and all functions are colour coded on a rotary dial for ease of use.

The DL9118 is also packed full of features, such as a Remote Test Probe, Auto Start Loop & Continuity, colour changing LCD display indicating error, and comes complete with a toolbox style carry case. All in all, the DL9118 offers incredible value for a feature packed MFT meeting all the safety and performance requirements of BS EN 61557.

The above 5 multi-function testers are the ones our students told us about. They seem to be popular with Megger being the brand we use here at Able Skills. Each to their own however as Electricians world wide will have their preferences. Whether your under going a Part P Course like the Domestic Installer Course or any one of our other Electrical Courses, be sure to use the one you feel most comfortable with!
