How do I become a Gas Engineer?
When starting out as a complete new entrant it can be confusing where to begin. We try to make the path as clear as possible. We do this by including all of the necessary steps into packages. These packages, such as our New Entrant Gas Training Package 2 present a straightforward idea of what you need in order to start a career in the trade.
Step 1:
The first step is to get stuck in with some hands-on training. You need to know the fundamentals from somebody who has real experience out on the job. With our package you will get 7-weeks of intensive training gaining essential skills in a whole range of different topics.
You will get to grips with everything from safety, legislation and standards to Installation of pipework, appliance installation, gain soldering skills, learn how to read burner pressure, gas rates and so much more.
Step 2:
The second step is putting together a portfolio. To do this you will need to work alongside an already registered Gas Engineer. You can do this independently if you know a Gas Safe Registered Engineer willing to take you on or you can complete this process with ourselves.
During this process you will need to collect pictures, videos and generally collect evidence that you have completed tasks on a variety of gas appliances. Remember you cannot complete this in a simulated environment, all work collected must be from on-site work, whether that's in a domestic property or elsewhere.
Step 3:
The final part included in our New Entrant Gas Training Package 2 is an ACS Assessment! This will need to be completed before you are eligible for Gas Safe registration and this is a requirement for all operatives involved in the installation, maintenance and servicing of domestic gas appliances and pipe-work installations.
Everyone will take on the CCN1 Module over 5-days which covers general Gas Safety then there are additional tests you can take such as CKR1 being domestic cookers and so on. The modules you take will depend on the evidence collected in your portfolio!
When can I start?
