Find out why Jess chose Able Skills for her City & Guilds Level 2 Plumbing Course and how she’s working towards a career change with a home study training programme.
Continuing our Student Stories series, we chat with Jess, a student on our City & Guilds Level 2 Plumbing Course. Having chosen to do the course via our home study programme, Jess was in the centre for her first practical week, so it was the perfect opportunity to find out how she’s getting on.
In this interview, you’ll find out why she chose Able Skills, how she’s finding the course and what her future career plans are.

What course are you doing and why?
“I’m currently studying the level 2 diploma in plumbing. I’ve wanted to be a plumber and to hopefully move onto gas engineering for about seven years, so I’m now finally doing my training.”
Will this be a career change? If so, what leads you to plumbing and gas?
“Yes, I currently work in law so a big change of career.”
“I’ve always loved doing practical work. Moving on from DIY and actually doing it for a job is what I want to do."
You’ve been working on the course via our home study programme, how have you found your first week in the centre doing practical?
“Yeah, my first week’s training has been great. Rich (the instructor) is really really good and everybody’s been really friendly, so yeah I’ve really enjoyed it.”
And lastly, how did you hear about Able Skills?
“Through lots of research.
This course allows me to do all my study around working in my current job.”
