More tradesmen may show interest in renewable energy courses after a leading expert rejected suggestions that EU green power targets should be abandoned.
A spokesperson from RenewablesUK responded to the publication of the report '2020 Hindsight: Does the renewable energy target help the UK decarbonise?' by stressing that the current approach does work.
The source told Business Green: "Backpedalling on our renewable energy targets would make no sense whatsoever. Piecemeal development of renewables will leave consumers more exposed to fossil fuel volatility."
Such comments are likely to rekindle many engineers' interest in taking renewable energy courses in the future.
The controversial report that prompted the comments by RenewablesUK was published by Policy Exchange and suggested there are cheaper and more efficient ways for the UK to cut carbon emissions than increasing sustainable energy capacity.
It looked at 16 separate methods of reducing such greenhouse gases by 80 per cent by 2050.
