Taking a look at the options available to our bricklaying students! What is the best choice for you?
Which course is for you?
We offer several bricklaying courses! To determine what course is best for you, you'll need to think about how experienced you are in this trade first. No experience whatsoever? Then we would suggest an Introduction to Bricklaying Course.
Once you have completed the Introduction to Bricklaying Course, and you feel as though you would like to carry on with your training, the next step of progression would be an Advanced Bricklaying Course. During this 5-day period, you will be taught some more technical abilities such as:
- Building archways (segmental)
- Swoops
- Ornate pillars
- Birds beak detail
- Brick on Edge with Creasing Tile
- Quetta Bond Walling
- Plinth Brickwork
What is the next step?
If you do already have experience in bricklaying or you have taken the bricklaying courses listed above then you should consider gaining a qualification by taking a City & Guilds Bricklaying Course.
Completion of this course will result in you obtaining a City & Guilds certificate in bricklaying. These 3-weeks of practical bricklaying is an excellent start for anyone looking to begin working in the industry.
During this intensive practical course, you will be given all the tools and knowledge surrounding the basic elements of bricklaying. The course will cover these specific areas:
- Health and Safety in construction
- Constructing half brick corner
- Constructing cavity walls in brick and block
- Constructing 1 brick walling (English bond)
Looking to get an NVQ?
An NVQ is proof of your competency on-site and is seen by construction firms as a highly rated qualification for you to have under your belt. An NVQ Level 2 Bricklaying Course can be taken as a full term of 8-weeks. If you have already completed a City & Guilds Bricklaying Course then you can upgrade to the NVQ and train for an additional 5 weeks; payment would be adjusted considering what you have already paid on this course.
Any student completing this course will find themselves entirely ready for building site employment. We have no doubt that completing this course will allow you to find work in this trade.
You will need to be working on site to complete an NVQ, you cannot achieve the qualification here at our training centre. The purpose of this course is to set you up in perfect stead to be successful in your assessment. We provide an assessor from Able Skills to your place of work for 2 visits, who will judge your competence and knowledge of bricklaying.
Testimonials from our previous students:
R Cronin
"No problems at booking all explained and clear costs transparent with no hidden nasties. payments made on the day quickly in a very friendly manner. The course was well presented in a way that we complete beginners could understand and mistakes explained and ironed out as we went along. The tutor was obviously experienced and put across the various techniques we required with patients in a friendly manner. The course was tailored to our requirements as we went along to provide the skills we need to do our home projects. We are by no means professional bricklayers but have gone away confident that we can do a good job of the couple of projects we have in mind"

As for the course I’ve completed I couldn’t have asked for anything more it has given me the skills and qualifications I now need to go out and work as a Bricklayer.”
