We firmly believe that construction training should be accessible to all, and anyone who wants to build a career in the industry should have the opportunity to do so.
While traditional training has often been delivered during the typical working week, one way we’ve been able to ensure more people can begin on the path to a career in construction is by opening our centre 7 days a week.
With many people unable to commit to training courses during the week, this has proved a popular offering, and at a time when the industry is facing significant skills shortages, weekend training and home-study options could prove vital in attracting a new, much-needed wave of talent.
Who is weekend training suitable for?
To put it simply, weekend training is suitable for anyone who wants to build or expand their construction skills, but cannot do so on a Mon-Fri basis.
There are a variety of situations where this may be the case. One of the most obvious scenarios is someone already working in a full-time job — finding the time to fit a 5-day per week course around this would simply be impossible without taking a significant portion of your holiday allowance.
Parents may also struggle to attend a training centre during the week, whereas weekends might be more manageable in terms of childcare.
For those already working in the industry who want to advance their skills, being able to complete advanced courses at the weekend can mean there’s no loss of work or earnings during the week.
How long does weekend training take when compared to full-time training?
This will vary depending on your experience, the sector and the level of qualification you’re seeking.
As an example, to complete your Level 2 electrical training on a weekend basis, your learning will be spread over 18 weekends through a 36-week period, on a two-weekends-on, two-weekends-off basis.
For those interested in weekend plumbing training, this route will last 15 weekends over a 30-week period, also on a two weekends on, two weekends off basis.
If you have any questions about any of the weekend courses available at Able Skills then please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Give us a call on 01322 280 202, or visit us in the training centre whenever we’re open, and one of our team would be happy to help.
