Electrician Training is continuously being ran every single day at Able Skills. Having operating for several years, we can often see where the future lays for Electricians and today's topic for discussion is how introducing a professional status for Electricians can impact the industry.
How Would It Work?
For those who may not have heard about the proposal, SELECT (the electrotechnical trade association based in Scotland) have done a great job in increasing the awareness of the campaign. Simply put, introducing a professional title for Electricians would work much like how the Gas Safe Register operates for Gas Engineers.
It will provide clarity for the public when wanting to know who really is qualified and who isn't. By giving qualified Electricians who have actually undergone formal Electrician Training and Electrical Courses a professional title, many believe it will successfully prepare the UK for the future of never ending electrical jobs.
Here's What Alan Wilson (Managing Director of SELECT) Had To Say:
“We are in a rapidly changing environment and electricity is the fuel both of now and of the future. It is vital that we capture the best people for the industry.”
“It is becoming clear that perceptions of working with electricity are changing. It is now seen as highly technical, highly skilled and demanding an enquiring and flexible mind.”
If all goes through, Scotland will be the first to host such title for Electricians with the rest of the UK potentially following. It all began when the Scottish government began to collect data on the amount of electrical incidents occurring after an alarming amount were being reported. What else does this mean...
No More Rogue Traders!
By introducing a professional title for Electricians, this means that it will prove difficult for anyone to pretend they're qualified as they wouldn't hold the title to do so!
Supporting Mr Wilson's arguments is the secretary of the Scottish Joint Industry Board (JIB) Fiona Harper..
Here's What She Had To Say:
“Protection of Title and the importance of fully trained electricians would lift the industry to the next level. Professional status would almost certainly attract applicants from a wider pool.”
Unfortunately, it does remain a massive problem for the electrical industry. When considering the amount of electrical based jobs they'll be in the future, the time is now for entities such as the JIB to work with governments and find out how to regulate the industry for the safety of the public.
The scheme would tell you if a particular Electrician had an NVQ Level 3 or something more basic, or even more advanced. From an 18th Edition Course, to the Level 2 Electrical Course, all Electrician Training and Qualifications will be reflected within the professional title and we're edging closer and closer to seeing this become a reality!
We've heard of many stories of incidents from both online and even our own students who are undergoing Electrician Training and Electrical Courses. If you want to find out what it takes to carry out such work, please click here.
