You may have read one of our recent articles about how one Landlord in particular hadn't supplied a gas safety certificate for one of his tenants... Well following that article, it's safe to say more people out there took note note of Gas Safety and what it means for landlords, tenants and of course the public.
With the RLA (Residential Landlords Association) being a big advocate of helping Landlords in tricky situations and the Gas Safe Register doing what they do for the industry, it comes as no surprise seeing the pair work together in what seems a smart move.
In what's being described as a strategic partnership, both companies will join forces to spread of the message of just how important it is to use a Gas Safe Registered Engineer.
For those who may not know, the Gas Safe Register provide the public with a list of Gas Engineers who have undergone Gas Training Courses, successfully completed what's called a 'Gas Portfolio' and have passed their 'ACS Exams'... All of which make them eligible to officially call themselves Gas Safe Registered Engineers.
Under the law, anyone working on gas appliances must be registered with Gas Safe and anyone undergoing any work illegally will be severely penalised by the government with hefty fines and punishments at stake.
As the RLA and Gas Safe have similar goals in mind, their efforts to increase the awareness of Gas Safety certainly makes sense from an outside point of view.
Here's What Andrew Dixon (RLA's CEO) Had To Say:
“No-one can cut corners when it comes to gas safety, and it is important that landlords are confident the people they are hiring to carry out essential gas safety works in their properties are competent and trustworthy. This new partnership will help promote good practice to both landlords and tenants.”
We also recently spoke about just how many adults don't bother checking to see if the Gas Engineer they hire is legally qualified to do so. This brings so many more problems to the country which include money, legislation and of course fatalities which you may have seen in the news.
Jonathon Samuel Gas Safe Register's CEO Added:
“We welcome this new partnership with landlords. By law, all gas engineers must be on the Gas Safe Register, which replaced CORGI. Only engineers who are Gas Safe registered should be used to fit, fix or service gas appliances, and landlords should always check the front and back of the engineer’s Gas Safe Register ID card.”
It will be interesting to see what changes this new partnership brings and if it affects the current Gas Safe Registered Engineers and those currently undergoing their Gas Training Courses now...
