A refurbishment project at Tottenham Court Road Underground station may require the expertise of people who have taken electrical courses.
Chief executive of Crossrail Rob Holden stressed the redesign will meet the needs of London commuters, as well as tourists.
The initiative will see the tube station refurbished and a Crossrail station incorporated into the complex, with the project potentially leading to new job opportunities for technicians who have completed electrical courses.
Mr Holden said: "The striking designs for Tottenham Court Road Crossrail station will soon become a reality as preparatory construction work is now underway ahead of the start of main works in 2011."
According to Crossrail plans, the station's ticket hall is set to be six times the size it is now, with the passenger capacity being doubled at the transport hub.
Last month, the organisation announced that the Paddington section of the transport programme will be handled by Carillion Construction Limited, with a step-free entrance to the Hammersmith and City line proposed as part of the plans.
