Workers who have taken plumbing training courses could find themselves in demand in the near future after Barratt reported an improvement in the house building market.

The developer - which was founded in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1958 - witnessed a 43 per cent yearly growth in forward sales of its houses in the six months leading to December 2009, according to a trading report released by the firm today (January 14th).

Mark Clare, group chief executive commented on the data, saying: "With margins growing and a 43 per cent increase in total forward sales, the market has improved but is still subject to the major uncertainties of both mortgage finance and the general economic outlook."

In addition, the company revealed that it expects to deliver 12,000 units during the next financial year.

With so many construction projects to be undertaken across the country by one company, it could be that the number of employment opportunities for professionals with approved electrical, plumbing or gas qualifications increase.
