Able Skills Centre Manager Angela Wright found herself in an unusual situation when one of her sons decided one day that he wanted to learn to be an Electrician. Up to this point, her son had done a variety of mundane jobs from working in Leisure Centres to being a delivery driver. He had just become a dad for the first time when he decided he wanted to be an Electrician – he considered that this could be a career rather than just a job.
In Angela’s opinion, there is no better place than Able Skills to undertake such training but equally, to place your son under the guidance of your own staff was a strange situation to be in.
She needn’t have been concerned. Mason Wright started his C&G 2365 level 2 under the guidance of the very knowledgeable Keith Higgins and quite frankly, hasn’t looked back.
Masons timing for a career change couldn’t have come at a better time. There is an abundance of work available within the electrical industry with Electricians needed up and down the UK due to the increased amount of work becoming available.
Mason joined our growing list of electrical students in 2014 and studied hard, he didn’t get any special treatment because he is the centre managers son and he found the course incredibly challenging at times. His dedication to the course paid off as he went on to complete C&G 2365 at level 2, level 3 and 17th Edition.
Since completing these electrical courses, Mason has had regular work. He started initially with a company installing PV systems but soon realised he was being used more for labouring than he was for installation work. Mason was then fortunate enough to be given a start with a company who undertake a variety of work in and around London and he can’t believe how much his confidence has grown and how in such a short time, the responsibility placed on him has increased. Mason no longer feels like a trainee or an apprentice, he can confidently call himself an Electrician and does so with a lot of pride. He is currently working towards achieving his NVQ at level 3 – he is gathering evidence daily and hopes to be ready for a site visit from NVQ Assessor Clive Baker quite soon. Mason is aware that he will need to do the AM2 as part of this process and this is where he is feeling a little nervous but we are sure that he will be fine.
Mason is confident that in time, he will be looking to further his knowledge in the electrical industry and complete his inspection and testing qualifications.
Mason will confidently advise that Able Skills provides excellent grounding, tuition and skills for anyone looking to become an Electrician and he is comfortable to admit that there are frequent situations that occur when he will look back on his course notes to help him in a specific situation. Mason is proof that after training and working hard to get the qualifications and skills that work is out there and you can get started straight away.
