It is a common theme among students here at Able Skills to have a complete career change from the polar opposite of construction. Whether it is Banking to Bricklaying, Accounting to Decorating or even Business Owner to Electrician, we have seen it all here at our centre in Dartford. Trevor is no exception as he changes from his long career in IT to a new career in Plastering.
Trevor first visited us early in 2019 when he joined our Introduction to Plastering Course and enjoyed it so much, he decided to upgrade it to the Accredited Plastering Course. He is now at the end of his training and very much ready for his new career.
For 18 years, Trevor worked a number of roles within IT as a technician and also in management and after some consideration he felt the time was right to make a change and start something completely new. With previous experience in the trade as he had done labouring work in the past and also some property development work, Trevor decided the construction industry was the best avenue to go down. He currently has 3 properties rented out and is looking to grow his new business now as a Fully Qualified Plasterer.
Trevor has fully used the flexibility option of our courses to his advantage. The 6 weeks of training he has spilt up into blocks to fit his needs and to learn over a longer period. What started as a Google Search of ‘Plastering Courses’ has turned into a life changing 6 weeks of training for Trevor and he is now very excited for his future in the industry.
Now he is going into his new career fully prepared, his new business is set up and ready to go with work already lined up. He has spent time on a website and Social Media channels for his new company, SkimFlat. Hopefully in the future, Trevor is looking to send staff members to train with us at Able Skills after such a positive experience he has had here.
Living in the Midlands area Trevor had found centres closer to home but after seeing our reviews and videos of courses, he decided to make a decision to train with us and it has paid off. Trevor is now ready to go after passing all his assessments with distinctions and gaining his City & Guilds Qualification.
It has been a pleasure to have Trevor train with us and we hope to see him again very soon with staff members to his new company!
