Unregistered plumber’s work sparked gas leak!
The conversation keeps coming up. Illegal Gas work is something that can be easy to get in trouble for as traders may think that it's not important and may believe that carrying out this kind of work is no big deal whilst not being registered. However, another case of un-registered work has put a plumbers livelihood on the line once again. The plumber in question installed a combi boiler and pipework in one property and relocated a boiler and associated pipework in another.
He was not registered with the Gas Safe Register and forged the signature of a registered gas engineer to complete the work before a gas leak was detected at one of the properties. The signature means that he was aware at the time of the relevance of the Gas Safe Register and chose to ignore the governing body. It is a legal requirement that anyone and everyone who carries out any kind of work involving gas appliances are registered, failing to do so can result in huge fines, court cases and aggravation that could have been easily avoided!
As a result of this particular court case, the plumber as a result of ignoring Gas Safety Regulations was sentenced to 12 weeks custody for each offence, to be served concurrently and was additionally suspended for two years. Which means that he will have to find an alternative method of income al because he didn't register and pay a measly £362.
