Whatever your career path, expanding your skill set is always a positive thing — whether it’s growing your earning potential, opening up brand-new job opportunities, or simply, for the personal fulfilment it brings.
For gas engineers, one of the more common progression routes is obtaining commercial qualifications once you have built some experience in the industry.
Engineers already working in a domestic capacity will often decide they’d also like the possibility of operating on commercial appliances, requiring an extra element of training and assessments.
To make this process as efficient as possible, Able Skills offers a dedicated commercial gas changeover course built especially for those already working as domestic gas engineers.
Who is the commercial gas changeover course for?
Able Skills’ commercial gas changeover course is suitable for domestic gas engineers who already hold their CCN1 - Domestic Core Gas Safety qualification, and have been a member of the Gas Safe Register for more than 12 months.
The course can also be useful for engineers who have previously obtained their commercial gas qualifications, but who need a refresher before renewing their Gas Safe registration.
What does the commercial gas changeover course cover?
This 15-day training and assessment package covers certification for the most common categories of commercial gas. The modules you will cover are:
- ICPN1 - First Fix Pipe Installations
- TPCP1A - Testing and Direct Purging of Small Low-Pressure Commercial Gas Installations
- CIGA1 - Commission, service, Repair and Breakdown of Commercial Indirect Fired Heating Appliances and Equipment
- CORT1 - Commission, Service, Repair and Breakdown of Commercial Overhead Luminous Radiant Plaque and Radiant Tube Heaters
- CDGA1 - Commission, Service, Repair and Breakdown of Commercial Direct-Fired Heating Appliances and Equipment
Once your training is complete, you’ll be ready to undertake your commercial ACS assessment, a mandatory requirement before you can legally carry out commercial gas work.
The benefits of completing the commercial gas changeover course
Adding commercial qualifications to your skill set is an effective way to help you stand out to potential employers by increasing the scope of work you can take on.
Naturally, being in a position to take on work beyond solely domestic can also be a great way to boost your earning potential, while simultaneously opening up new and exciting progression routes.
