A gas student is working in the commercial gas training centre at Able Skills

Whether it’s increasing your employment opportunities, boosting your earning potential or unlocking the next stage of your career progression, adding to your skill set as a tradesperson is always a positive step.

One common progression route we see in the construction industry is qualified gas engineers, who have already been working in a domestic setting, going on to also complete their commercial training.

Given the frequency of this pathway, Able Skills has devised a Gas Changeover Course dedicated to streamlining the training and assessment process for domestic gas engineers looking to obtain their commercial qualifications.

Who is the commercial gas changeover course aimed at?

The Commercial Gas Changeover course is a 15-day training and assessment programme primarily aimed at gas engineers who already hold their CCN1 - Domestic Core Gas Safety qualification and who are already working in a domestic setting.

The course can also be valuable to engineers who may have already obtained their commercial qualifications, but who are looking to renew their Gas Safe Registration and need a refresher.

What does the commercial gas changeover course cover?

The initial training covers all aspects of commercial gas, ensuring that engineers are trained to the level required before undertaking their ACS assessment.

Along with building a solid understanding of safety, latest legislations and standards, the practical training is designed to replicate the typical tasks commercial gas engineers can expect to be carrying out when working in the field.

For example, the ICPN1 module ensures engineers are able to carry out repairs on steel, copper and polythene pipe fittings that are above the size of 28mm and up to 150mm in a commercial building.

The CIGA1 module equips engineers with the ability to commission, service and repair gas fired convection heaters and hot water boilers, while the CDGA1 enables engineers to complete this work on direct-fired convection commercial heating equipment.

You'll achieve certification for common category appliances and pipework in a commercial gas setting.
