What should I expect from Gas courses?
You should expect a high standard from our Gas courses, we have been providing training for a long time and we know what we are doing when It comes to giving students the skills and ability they need to embark on a new career! With expert instructors and excellent facilities, we aim to provide comprehensive training that will take you from a beginner level all the way to registering as a Gas Safe Engineer. At this moment in time our centre is closed due to the world-wide pandemic, however, we would like to highlight the reasons that make us here at Able Skills the best choice for your future career in the trade!
Firstly, you should expect a hands-on approach, we look to give you an experience that gives you the fundamental skill that you will need on a daily basis and the only way to do this is to get hand-0n with the practical learning. We have bays/workstations set-up so that students can work in pairs or individually tackling how to approach different gas appliances, new and old. As well as classroom-based theory sessions that will give you an insight into the theory surrounding the trade. We offer 3-Gas packages each with their own set of courses. Our New Entrant Gas Training Package 2 is the best all-round option as it includes the three main elements that you need to start working out in the industry; 7-weeks of hands-on training, portfolio completion and an ACS assessment!
You should expect to learn a lot! Becoming a qualified gas engineer is not easy, however, we have structured these packages in such a way that this process should be as straightforward as possible. Starting with the basic pipe-skills and gradually moving a lot to more advanced aspects of the trade such as; heating controls, airing cupboards, radiator installation practices, gas rates, flueing, alliance installation and much more! After completing the 7-weeks of training here at our facility it will be up to you to take these skills that you've learnt into the workplace to complete your portfolio.
Following the completion of this 7-week training, you will be deemed competent to undertake supervised gas work and so the next step towards Gas Safe registration will be to demonstrate your competence in the workplace and you do this by working alongside a Gas Safe Registered Engineer who acts as your on-site verifier, helping you to build a portfolio of evidence and prove your competence and safety working with Gas which is a requirement when registering with the Gas Safe Register!
