You're embarking on a new construction career and you’ve decided that bricklaying could be the trade for you. If that's the case, you might be asking yourself a few questions about where to start.

  • Where do I go to get the training and qualifications to start my bricklaying career?
  • How do I know what qualifications I really need?
  • Does that change depending on whether I want to do private work or work on a construction site?

Regardless of your end goal, some practical training will be essential. Learning the trade on a construction training course is a time-efficient and effective way of gaining skills, competence and qualifications.

Once you’ve found a training provider, which bricklaying courses do you choose?

In the list below, we’ve summarised the bricklaying courses that we offer at Able Skills. Clicking on each one will take you to the course page for further information.

Intermediate Bricklaying – This is the next step, where you’ll gain speed and technique and build on the bricklaying skills that you learned in the introductory course.

Advanced Bricklaying Programme – This course, exclusive to Able Skills, has been designed to give you the current skills essential to securing work in the industry.

NVQ Level 2 Bricklaying Course – This course will prepare you for building site employment with a City & Guilds certificate and route to NVQ level 2, so you can apply for CSCS.

City & Guilds Bricklaying Course – This course will teach the basics of bricklaying while achieving an industry-recognised City & Guilds certificate.

Level 2 Bricklaying Diploma – This course combines theory and practical and on successful completion, a City & Guilds accredited Level 2 Diploma.

Work Based Assessments for Bricklaying NVQ Level 2 – This NVQ assessment process is available to confirm your competence for NVQ Level 2 if you are already employed in the industry.

Depending on your end goal, this will affect the bricklaying course that you choose. As Able Skills is a City & Guilds-approved centre, many of the bricklaying courses can be transferred. For example, if you start with the Introduction to Bricklaying, this will give you a taste of the industry. If you then decide that you’d like to pursue a further qualification, that introductory block of learning can transfer over. We also offer part-time training, flexible payment options and accommodation.
