Today we caught up with Adam Humphries who is one of the latest students to undergo Electrician Training on The City & Guilds Level 2 Electrical Course. Adam is on the first Level 2 of the year with several other students who will be with us for 7 weeks in total. Being a massively popular course here at Able Skills, students are often put on a waiting list as we're booked months ahead.
Adam was lucky enough to go for the career he wanted by kick starting the new year off with a fresh start. So let's find out a bit more about what he was doing prior to starting his journey and why he chose Able Skills Electrician Courses.
What were you doing before?
I've been working as a postman for the past 10 years and I decided to go for something that can earn me more money as well as keeping me engaged. The reason I became a Postman in the first place was because it would keep me active as you'd imagine. I did enjoy it for the first few years as it was a stable job and let me base a good life around work. I liked my routine and it was nice to see people you would see yesterday and say a quick hello. It was up until just a couple years ago that I felt I could do more with my time and found myself guilty of getting too comfortable within a role.
So why Electrician Courses?
But it's time for a change now. I need another challenge and I've literally seen the amount of money to be made as I deliver post to several electricians and it's clear how well they're doing. In a conversation with one of them, he told me he'd be happy to give me a hand and throw some work my way when I need experience! I believe a trade is something that will be in demand forever and not only that, but I would love to be able to work on my own house and get into the property game.
How's the Course going so far?
So far so good! It's only my second week and I've learnt a lot. Both the theory and practical parts are massively interesting and I'm annoyed at myself for not doing it sooner!I've got a great instructor and everyone is willing to help each other which is always a good sign.
It's great to see people going for what they want to do, especially changing careers as it's seen as such a huge risk. The real risk here is only doing something you don't want to do for the rest of your life, compared to doing something you love and gives you a good living!
