Here at Able Skills we have been helping people learn new skills, secure qualifications and start new careers for 20-years! We understand what it takes to become a professional electrician from scratch. When thinking about becoming an electrician yourself you may have thought about the Domestic Installer route through Part-P courses.
This was great and allowed people to undertake domestic electrical work and self-certificate the work they did. However, there are problems with this route and therefore we no longer offer this training option. Instead we intend to focus on those looking to become full-qualified Electricians! Let's take a look at the reasons why and how you should start a career in the trade...
Why do we not offer Part-P?
The problem was evident after a while and was starting to make the course redundant. It is not the course itself but more the challenges people found afterwards. In order to be able to self-certificate electrical work undertaken in a domestic dwelling, individuals need to register with a scheme provider as a 'Competent Person'. So to do this you would go and register with a registration body such as NICEIC, for example but the process was confusing and was becoming harder due to different safety regulations and so on.
Sometimes these scheme registrations would require you to have 2-years of electrical installation experience. Making the idea of a short course pointless in moving you towards scheme registration. So, to avoid further confusion we decided to focus our training efforts on those looking to become fully-qualified electricians.
Taking on a Part-P course never made you an electrician in the first place. We want to help those looking to gain ECS cards such as the JIB Gold Card and become registered professionals!
How do I become a Fully-Qualified Electrician?
Well, there are many ways to go about achieving this goal. Here at our training centre we have aimed to make the process as straightforward as possible for people by putting all of the relevant electrical courses into one complete package. Our Gold Card Approved Electrician Package also presents a massive saving in comparison to taking on each course included separately.
The package aims to give you all of the training, assessments and ultimately qualifications needed to be in the position to obtain a JIB Gold Card. The gold card shows that the cardholder has completed a formal industry regulated competency based qualification, which includes technical theory with practical and competency assessments. To apply you will need a Level 3 NVQ, also included within the package.
As you can see in the video about, we focus on giving you hands-on practical training. Of course you will learn the theory and science behind electrics. Yet sometimes the best way to learn is to get stuck in. As you progress over the different courses; ; City & Guilds Level 2, City & Guilds Level 3, PAT Testing, 18th Edition, Inspection & Testing and an AM2 assessment. You will be guided by our electrical instructors. They have years of experience both teaching and working out on the tools as professional electricians.
Whether you are looking to start a career because you've lost your job maybe due to coronavirus or simply want a fresh start. Here at Able Skills we are here to help you step by step. With the industry needing around 15,000 fully qualified electricians over the next five years. There is plenty of opportunity out there.
Electricity plays a huge part in all of our daily lives and as the population grows the demand for electricians is only going to increase. Electricians earn a great living and always have the option to become their own boss. It is one of the most versatile roles out there and with the right training we can help you to kick-start a life long career in the trade!
