Work towards a career as a Gas Engineer with our Gas courses in June!
At our training centre we are continuing to operate as usual during this second lockdown period as a place of education. Gas courses are some of the most popular training option that we teach and are a great way for people to learn and develop new skills with an aim to kick-start a new career. Our Gas training courses come in packages, both for new entrants and for experienced plumbers looking to add the trade to their arsenal. As a new entrant our New Entrant Gas Training Package 2 is the perfect starting point. This course involves 7-weeks of hands-on practical training, portfolio completion and an ACS assessment, all of which are needed in order to apply with the Gas Safe Register. Currently we have spaces available on this gas training course starting from the 14th June in the new year!
How does this course work?
Initially, during this New Entrant Gas Training Package you will get stuck in to 7-weeks of hands-on practical experience mixed with classroom sessions focusing on the theory side of the trade. During these weeks we will touch on many different subject from the very fundamental aspects to more advanced topics including; Training on aspects of health and safety relevant within the gas industry, including asbestos awareness, Training to work safely around electrical systems, Training in the use of copper and low carbon steel so that your pipe skills are established at an acceptable standard, Looking at heating controls, Airing cupboard and radiator installation practices and all areas of domestic gas safety. Taught by our talented and very experienced instructors we want you to learn, develop and feel confident in your knowledge and completion come the end of this 7-week period.
Next, you will look to collect evidence of work. You will need to do this on the job, meaning you will need to work alongside a registered engineer. The reason you are collecting evidence is because when registering with Gas Safe they want to see that you can work competently on the job and have some real-life experience under your belt.
Finally, you will return to our centre to take on an ACS assessment. This is an exam that focuses on Core Domestic Gas Safety and is a requirement for Gas Safe registration. The purpose of this Training/Assessment is to provide operatives with the knowledge and skills relating to safety regulations, procedures and British Standards, which must be applied when working on Gas Installations. The test will focus on things like Gas safety, emergency procedures, purging appliances, testing, flueing standard and basically making sure you understand the stand of practice within this industry. Additionally CCN1 or Core Gas Safety Test is a prerequisite for the various appliances available including; CENWAT1: Central Heating Boilers & Water Heaters, MET1: Meters, CKR1: Domestic Cookers, HTR1: Gas Fires & Wall Heaters and CPA1: Combustion Performance Analysis. - The tests that you complete will ultimately determine what you can and can't legally work on once registered and working out on the tools.
Staying safe?
As you can see in the video above students are wearing face coverings at all times whilst in and around our workshops and classrooms. Since we re-opened at the end of August we have made many different changes to the way that we operate to accommodate social distancing and to ensure we are providing a safe and reliable space for both our students and staff. This includes a reduced number of students on each course, constant cleaning and fogging using our machines, hand-sanitation stations throughout, separated equipment and tools, classrooms have been re-organised to keep students apart and most recently we reduced our students lunch time from 1-hour to 30-minutes with different groups leaving for lunch at different times to reduce general socialising. We will continue to do our best in an effort to keep our students and staff safe, however, you can be assured that we are taking this pandemic very seriously and that we are being diligent in the way we continue to teach these courses.
