West Northamptonshire Development Corporation has approved plans by Midland Heart to build a new £5.5 million homeless centre in Northampton, which could provide employment to tradespersons who have taken plumber or electrician training courses.
Planning permission has been granted for the provision of a multi-functional site that will combine currently existing Acorn House and Hope Centre facilities and create 39 flats and nine emergency units, with new kennels also being built for dog owners.
Stephen Philpott, Places of Change programme manager at Midland Heart, commented: "We are delighted that planning has been granted for the new centre in a location which is already helping individuals who are in need of supported housing."
With an emphasis on supplying high-quality facilities, workers with approved electrical qualifications, plasterers, plumbers, bricklayers and other industry professionals could find themselves in demand for the project.
Midland Heart is a leading UK regeneration and housing organisation, which invests more than £100 million on projects each year.
