Scotland's Energy Assistance Package has been extended, it has been revealed, which could continue to offer employment opportunities for tradespersons with approved electrical qualifications.
According to housing and communities minister Alex Neil, the initiative has been "opened up", potentially helping an additional 10,000 households struggling to afford heating costs during the cold weather.
He said: "The help available through our £60 million scheme is providing real help to bring down fuel bills so we're opening it up so that many more households can benefit."
The package aims to assist low-income families and offer advice on how to save money by making their homes more energy efficient.
Households with children under the age of 16 could even have eco-friendly upgrades installed for them - potentially providing work for electricians, plumbers and gas workers who fit thermostats, insulation, central heating systems and other green energy devices.
Eligible families could also receive a new boiler.
