This year’s World Plumbing Day is to be held on 11 March and will celebrate the crucial role that plumbing plays in the health and safety of modern society.

Now in its fifth year, the event, which is run by the World Plumbing Council, aims to highlight the many ways in which plumbing helps to make the world a better and safer place. Following recent natural disasters such as the 2010 Haiti earthquake and the 2011 tsunami in Japan, it is clear that the availability of safe drinking water and sufficient sanitation systems is something that should never be taken for granted.

WaterSafe, which launched in October 2013, is working to a similar objective in that it is aiming to help provide recognition for competent plumbers by urging a re-focus on standards within the plumbing industry. The scheme - which is supporting World Plumbing Day - also aims to protect members of the general public who are seeking plumbing work.
